A little bit of good news from Washington...

A little victory every now and then for democracy is always encouraging. You've got to love these headlines:

USA Today: "GOP retreats in DeLay dispute"
NY Times: "GOP Will Relent on Ethics Rules"
Washington Post: "Hastert willing to repeal ethics rules"

Soon, pundits across the country will write articles attributing the GOP "flip-flop" to the hard work of some daring tablers and letter writers at Stanford University...

OK, maybe not, but it couldn't have hurt.

It took the radical right a few decades to develop their response network. You know, the people who got Buster the Bunny banned from TV for visiting a lesbian couple in Vermont.

Anyway, Stanford Dems weren't the only ones writing letters but there were a sufficient number of letters and dialogue that we were effective in our cause. Like voting, one vote may not make the difference, but 100,000 people who don't vote can make the difference.
